It was Dick Clark who first heard the potential of these two young would-be songwriter-producers. The duo played him a song they had written for Madera’s group, the Juvenaires. The title was, “Do the Bop.” Upon hearing the song and seeing the group, Clark said, “change ‘Do the Bop’ to ‘At the Hop,’ and the Juvenaires to Danny and the Juniors, and you might just have something.” Madera and White took that advice and never looked back. Madara-White Productions went on to contribute to more than 200 million in sales with hits like “Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay” (Danny and The Juniors), “The Fly” (Chubby Checker), “1-2-3” (Len Barry), “You Don’t Own Me” (Lesley Gore), and “Let the Good Times Roll” (Bunny Sigler). Their songs have been featured in such classic motion pictures as Woodstock, American Graffiti, Grease, Dirty Dancing, The First Wives’ Club, and Mr. Holland’s Opus, among others.
